Fly Rod & Reel
You are just starting. Go to your local sporting goods store. Buy a 5-weight fly rod. This is my go-to size for rivers and streams! If you will be doing lakes, do a 7-weight fly rod! If you are doing small streams with small fish, 3-weightt will do. If you want to learn more about fly-rods you can read our blog. (Bigger the fly rod “weight”, bigger the fish it can handle.)
Here are some online options to get you started!
Fly Box
We have some cute fly boxes you can buy! Smaller flies, smaller fly box. There are lots of types, don’t stress over this one. But fly boxes are fun! I love organizing mine.
Leader + Tippet
There are 4 parts to your fly line! If you buy a kit, you won’t have to worry about the first 2! The backing is the very first part, it’s a thread like material, and then your fly line is next. this is the colored part you see. There are many types of fly line. But don’t worry about that right now. If you want to know more, you can read our blog post.
Here is the leader to buy (This is the piece that connects your fly line and your tippet): https://amzn.to/4cgEyiG
